Simplicity

Way back in a "once upon a time,"
the woman I was with asked me.
To express the love I have inside,
for her waiting to be set free.
So I simply responded,

"I love you."

The message from her face was apparent,
she was redder than a cherry.
And the intensity of her anger sent,
fear of what my statement would carry.
She replied,

"That's it?
Not good enough."

I was confused from her outburst,
and like a deer caught in the headlights,
just stood there wondering how things could get worst.
This is what started a long night.
She asked,

"Do I mean nothing to you?"

And that's when things became clear,
I knew exactly what she really wanted to hear.
But instead of just coming correct,
I began to reflect,
and replied again,

"Baby, I love you."

Her anger erupts,
"enough is enough."
this isn't what she wants to hear,
well it is but was too clear.
And so I told her,

"Baby my love for you is infinite,
unmeasurable by the cosmos.
I consider you to be heaven-sent,
and am so proud to boast,
because the happiness I have is from you the most,
and nothing else comes close.
Words don't hold a candle,
to my love for you.
So I hope you can handle,
simple words so true...

I love you."

Behind The Poem:

Using metaphore to express feelings are nice, but sometimes I feel that the best way to express yourself is to simply say whats in your heart. Fellow poets let me know what you think...Respect

Larry, you always say what your heart tells you, with your wonderful poems. But it's easy sometimes, to let our hearts rule our minds. Not everyone can cope with the truth, or sometimes their reaction can cut us up and confuse us.

No one can blame you for being honest and truthful, you answered the Ladies question, sometimes, People carry around too much emotional baggage from past relationships, and can't cope, when someone is nice to them. I've had it done to me so many times, it's never fair, but's that's life. What you must not do, is blame yourself.  An incredible write. I really enjoy your work, although sad at times. Keep writing and let it out friend, you'll find many can relate to you.

You have a great talent Larry. Best wishes. Moogie.

This is a beautiful piece.  What a lot of women wonder about their man.  They love to hear it but they also need to look at the man's actions.  Great job!!  I love this piece.:-)

thanks for the comment...i feel the same, like sometimes actions get overlooked and need to be taken into consideration...glad you loved it :-)

Encore... is what this piece deserves. I totally conquer with what you are saying. The simplest things aren't enough in others eyes, greed seems to be most apparent in life. Whether in communication or simply receiving a frank Hello, after someone says Hi!

Very eloquently written with truth & yes simplicity is under appreciated.

Wow!  we are kindred my brother.  I felt this poem and added it to my favorites.  I love a good love poem but I too think that saying something in metrical is nice but the simple words of I love you should totally suffice.  Keep writing and doing your thing.
