Halloween

Halloween

The moon has gone behind a cloud

The children quake with fright

For this is Allhallows eve

The goblins are out tonight

Children from all around the world

Tell stories from lost lore

Urban legends old wives tales

Of mayhem murder and gore

People ready with bowls of sweets

trick or treat and fright

All mannered of costumed children

Will scream out with pure delight

Its best to stay inside your house

When motley crowds doth roam

Give them treats avoid the tricks

Until their safe back home

Origin of Halloween While

Origin of Halloween

While there are many versions of the origins and old customs of Halloween, some remain consistent by all accounts. Different cultures view Halloween somewhat differently but traditional Halloween practices remain the same.

Halloween culture can be traced back to the Druids, a Celtic culture in Ireland, Britain and Northern Europe. Roots lay in the feast of Samhain, which was annually on October 31st to honor the dead.

Samhain signifies "summers end" or November. Samhain was a harvest festival with huge sacred bonfires, marking the end of the Celtic year and beginning of a new one. Many of the practices involved in this celebration were fed on superstition.

The Celts believed the souls of the dead roamed the streets and villages at night. Since not all spirits were thought to be friendly, gifts and treats were left out to pacify the evil and ensure next years crops would be plentiful. This custom evolved into trick-or-treating.

An absolute great write!

An absolute great write! Conjuring memories
of times when I went Trick-or-Treating...O' the
long awaited 'Night of sweet mischief' and our
cherished 'loot of candy'...when us kids become
the customed character and retire wearing that
treasured outfit, stuffing our faces until we fall
asleep...only to wake throughout that 'Eerie Eve',
peering through the dark at shadows that seem
to walk n talk.

I love this poem, Susan! It's really good! I love how you make it seem so. . . different. Meaning, how you make it seem "childish," seeing how you talk about children. You tied in tradition into this poem, and I'm a sucker for traditional stories. This is truly amazing! x

The term "Hellowin" exist in

The term "Hellowin" exist in our Bengali story.Still  country mothers make their children asleep telling the story of Ghost or calling moon.I think it is the symbol of devil who want to oppress  innocent people but people  raise their voice to struggle against the devil- we have story like that.
