Dedication to my Step-Father

You took care of three little girls
raised them with one hand,
they were your three little pearls
except you knew one of them was from a faraway land.
She wasn't your child
you knew fromt the start,
all though your wife's intentions were mild
it had broken your heart.
You had been divorced
so it wasn't unfaithful,
but you think the feelings were forced
and that he was ungrateful.
This little girl was like no other
you took care of her so long,
looked like her mother
but it all felt wrong.
She didn't have your eyes
and you already knew,
that she would grow up wise
just like you.
You raised a little girl
born with a chord wrapped around,
her tiny little neck twice over
and it was always bound.
Fastforward years later
as she walked into her new school
4th grade would hate her
you knew that was cruel.
It was for the best
and you knew her mother was right,
she had to look west
if east was the fight.
You look farther on
from that terrible year,
and see that your bond
isn't so sheer.
You've believed in her more
than she'll ever realize,
all three of them you adore
but she has those eyes.
It all takes you back
to that one single day,
when breathe was all she lacked
and by her side you would stay.
You raised her to be
larger than life,
and now you can see
that she'll make a great wife.
She's so happy
and she loves you so much,
because that girl is now older
and she owes you that much.
This poem is for my step-dad. He basically helped to raise me and my other two sisters, my two sisters were his but I wasn't his. He raised me basically with one hand metaphorically speaking. I owe him this much for everything he has done for me, even the small things have impacted me more than he'll ever know. I want to show this to him one day, even though we aren't in as good of touch at the moment because of some issues I want to tell him at least that I wrote it for him.
Any Feedback Welcomed
