dreaming with a broken heart

Love Poem

you tear me to pieces,
and leave me to die.
my head falls and I sleep.
I hear a voice and it tells me

"Sleep on sweet dreamer,
He loves you,
You'll see.
He doesn't know what to do."

I'm in a brand new world.
I see a light,
and a life there with you.
I hear you tell me,
that the voices words were true.

My heart is mended,
but I don't forget,
how you told me this wasn't love.

You aren't my only,
and I won't tell you any of this,
but when I wake up dear,
I hope that I can love on.

I was woken suddenly by hearing you say,
"it was all just a game."
I tried not to cry,
but cry I did.
I thought of the voice that would say

"cry now, sweet dreamer,
you're woken up now.
You just don't know what to do.
let this be a lesson to always remember,

When you dream with a broken heart,
the hardest thing to do,
is wake up."

Behind The Poem:

this is a dream I imagined having once, and in the end, I added something from an actual dream I had once. "it was all just a game" he had said. this is a true lesson though. but when writing this, I had that lullaby song from the beginning of "The Prince of Egypt" stuck in my head, I imagined parts of this as a song to that music. It's beautiful.
