This is the Day

This is the day I've dreamt of for many years
It's what I've been anticipating since I was a little girl
and my dad told me I'd always be able to conquer my fears

I was brought up being told that I had a gift and I was blessed
That someday I'd be able to see the world, meet new people
And have the ability to dress however I dressed

I've spent years and years focusing on just this one day
When I'd finally get to make my own decisions
and be who I so choose to be without caring what people say

Today is the day I've been waiting for since I was a little girl
Today I stand tall before everyone I've ever known
and months that seemed like years suddenly begin to whirl

It all comes down to this moment, me and you in your seat
Everything I've worked for rests in the palm of my hands
as I speak from my heart with no possible way to cheat

This is the day I stand before you with the
realization that I'm where I need to be
I thought something missing, that I had to go and find it
When all this time, I was looking right past
what I needed to see
