Why I Left, Why I Returned (Poetry)

I found it hard to revert
Back into my writing stance
To change her heart to make her smile
Was my intoxication
Tears of joy from her eyes
Soiled my mind
And grew roses of inspiration
And how I saw the twinkle in her eyes
Was like the stars
In the sky
And when we departed from that point in time
When we smiled together
My dedications died
And the prognosis of my inspiration was heart failure
The roses began to wither
My mind began to turn upside down
My composure began to break under the weight of the pen
So it fell from my grasp
No longer could I freestyle freely
Contained behind Alcatraz bars
Word play that once knew me denied my personality
Paper floated on tropical breezes
Until the feeding frenzy
On different aspects of me accomplished its victory

Dear heart
In defeat
Something conversed with me
So elegantly
And frequently
She whispered to me I miss the intimacy
How you held different pieces of me
This conspiracy
Is not your end come back to me
And let me pleasure your inspirational exigency
By the time my mind was revived
The crime that put me behind bars was tarnished
My words became free again
And my pen no longer strained my harmony strong again
I could compose another rhyme
To refine
Who I am
And it’s all thanks to poetry speaking to me.
