Bio

I am a published author and artist. I am a resident of Seattle, Washington. I was raised in the Bronx, New York, in an exceedingly diverse environment that had a profound effect on my view of the world and humanity. In addition to my published books (http://lvau.com), my work has appeared in literary magazines, anthologies and on the Internet. I have a diverse professional background encompassing education, the sciences and technology.

Writing and Art have always been an integral part of my creative life and telling stories through words and images the avenue through which I examine the dimensions of the human spirit. If there is an underlying theme in my work, it is to explore the many facets of the human experience.

A Peace Poem

poetry picture

Broken skulls of impassioned warriors
adorn the oblique shadows of human history,
cult of death remains pervasive
dying for one’s country
dying for the wayward dreams of empire.

THERE IS A CERTAIN CATACLYSMIC BEAUTY IN EVERY MOMENT

There is a certain cataclysmic beauty in every moment,
a certain dream-like way we have of propelling ourselves about.

Two heavy glass doors of the bank each bearing the word push,

Who Knows?

Who knows what
the moon holds
in its cup of wayward sand.

Keeper of pale luminescence,
drop down your ladder
free this feeble soul
from the wealth of its transgressions.

Voyager on the the crest of
idle and nocturnal dreams,
rescue me
from the heart of indifference,
from the ache of sorrows unnamed.

By the Skykomish

Perched on the deck
of a rented cabin
overlooking the skykomish
as it makes its tireless and
endless journey to the sea,
we embrace the presence’s passing moments
with our senses attuned to nature’s disposition.

Mount Index looms nearby,
as clouds compete for its
affectionate embrace, yet
it remains elusive.

Pair of beavers demonstrate their
well-earned industry as they

On the Deck - Summer Morning

Sun newly arisen from its eastern fortress,
clearly defined shadow of a deck chair on
the weather-beaten wood,
garden running riot,
earthly green and the many blossoms it enfolds,
call of plaintive crows somewhere above,
three hens within their wire kingdom
picking over the dirt that lies
beneath the grasp of beak and claw,
chickadees singing within the

Ocean's Lament

There was a time
not long ago
before the onslaught of
tireless acquisition
when the oceans were
filled with the living and
death did not run rampant.

There was a time
not long ago
when sticky strands of
black death and
balls of tar
did not foul the
beaches and marshes,
places of birth and renewal.

There was a time
not long ago
when the birds that feasted

To the Poet Who Lingered but Could Not Conquer

The subway was too much for us,
nights took too long to unwind
while winter made its grey descent
from the backdoor of your penthouse.

I woke up to water tanks
and broadway far below,
with the day ahead of us,
we danced
until the roof leaked,
until the sky was finally broken by the silence.

You carried the dust from new Orleans
and i some dreams of California,
