Bio

Here's the thing about me. I am a no nonsense type of person. I tell it like it is. I use poetry as an outlet to express my experiences, emotions and even once in a while, to say something funny. I prefer old fashioned poetry with structure, meter and, yes, rhyme. I know that most poetry of today is nothing more than well written paragraphs broken up in random locations, and much as that bothers me, I still enjoy reading them most of the time. I have even attempted to write a few freestyle poems myself. Of course, since I am not a fan of that style, they didn't turn out very well. (Oh Great Bard of Avon, I know you are spinning in your grave.) When reading my poetry it is obvious that my greatest influences are Shakespeare and Poe but what most people don't know it that I am also a fan of John Updike (though you may not know his poetry, you may know his screenplay, "The Witches of Eastwick") One last thing, DO NOT ask me for my opinion of your poetry or other prose if you don't really want to know. I will tell you what I think. I am not worried about hurting your feelings, I am concerned with helping you create great poetry. If I hurt your feelings, suck it up! You're a poet, write about it! If you don't ask me I won't tell you if I don't like it but I will tell you if I do like it.

How Often I Write Poetry

Whenever the mood strikes me.

My Other Hobbies

Science fiction movies and novels, hiking, camping, ballroom dancing, political activism (i.e. making fun of politicians)

Two Words That Best Describes Me
Unknown, searching
Occupation
Patriot, Husband, Father, not necessarily in that order. Oh, I earn a living by installing carpet.

Poems and Quotes by nebula7693

Little Lamb Lost

An evil menacing scowl on her face
The witch raised her smoothly sanded red staff
And then swung it down hard in the right place
Cries of anguish and pain making her laugh

Mom

A bawling child with bloodied knee;
You hugged me.

A lonely youth with tortured soul;
You hugged me.

An angry man who broke your heart;
You hugged me.

Our Constitution

Our Constitution which we hold so dear
That soldiers have paid for times over
Fighting across the world without fear
With the fierceness of a jealous lover

Great Law of the Land ever so abused

Haiku 6

Life is everything
Between pre-existence and
Our physical death

Haiku 5

Colors swirl and mix
Turn silver fading to grey
Death of a bubble

Haiku 4

Paper, ink and mind
Coming together as one
Expressions of life

Haiku 3

Summer leaves detach
Falling to the autumn ground
Brown to green by spring

Haiku 2

Introspective thoughts
What possible danger there?
Only your heart knows

Haiku 1

Sitting quietly
Solitary confinement
Voluntarily

The Beast Within the Chamber

Quicksilver lightning slashes through the chamber core
And awakens the sulfur beast inside once more.
Growing and straining with red faced fever burning

Rainbow Haiku in Three Parts

My heart cried out for God
I looked up through the window
And saw a rainbow.

I watched the rainbow
As it moved across the sky
My heart filled with joy.

The rainbow faded

The Night the Church Choir Came to Sing

That fateful night as they all remember, fell upon the fifteenth of December
The night the church choir came to sing.
A dry season had caused for miles around no snow to be anywhere on the ground.

Venusian Vicissitude

For Wendy

Transendental Escape

Spirit soaring.
Self-seeing, through unopened eyes
Inward sight
Roaming the depths of the Universe
Encounters consciousness
Beautiful, bittersweet
As she slips into something more

Balance

Oily, sulfurous, choking smog
Conceal thoughts one from another
Foghorns wail the search to connect
Collision bells sound an instant too late
Fractured, splintered spinning in circles

Grey Sheep

Loneliness, a cold, wet, woolen blanket
Smothers my passion and erodes my will
Like an icy wind on a chill black night.
Swallowing whole my creativity
Completely destroying all my desires

Peace

Peace means soldiers can put down their guns
And mothers can welcome home their sons.
Peace means that silent place in your mind
That understands those not of your kind.

His Eyes, An Oklahoma City Victim’s View

I wrote this poem a few days after the Oklahoma City bombing. It is based on the now famous photo of the fireman carrying the limp body of a little girl. This poem is from the little girl's perspective. To this day, I still cry whenever I read this.

Sensuality

Unseen sprites quietly moving with ease
Whisper secrets, giving voice to the breeze.
Moonlight filters through their frail phantom wings
Sheer curtains flutter; softly a sprite sings.

Shakespear: Measure for Measure

Our doubts are traitors and make us lose the good we oft might gain by fearing to attempt.
